BLACK LAWYERS THAT OBSERVE, COUNSEL AND REPRESENT PROTESTORS
About Us
The Black Lawyers Observe initiative was designed to enable people to express their political views as fully as possible without unconstitutional disruption or interference by the police with the help of Black legal professionals that can protect their rights.
In particular, Black Lawyers Observe seeks to aid minority protesters with the ability to protest with the fewest possible consequences from the criminal justice system. In addition Black Lawyers Observe, provides Black attorneys the ability to represent protesters who are arrested and bring civil litigation if needed. Black Lawyers Observe are typically, but not exclusively, law students, legal workers and lawyers who may or may not be licensed locally.
The goal of this initiative is to provide protesters access to Black legal professionals that can serve as a deterrent to unconstitutional behavior by law enforcement during a demonstration and follows the same guidelines as the National Lawyers Guild "Legal Observer"' program.
